Took a ride with Mom, Dad, and sister today to Arivaca canyon. Thanks for reading.

The Groomsmen

Image
Today was a day for a new experience.  While I've been growing more and more competent in the months since I first got my Canon T2i, there are still many shots I've yet to take and scenes I've yet to capture.  And even if I do manage to capture those things, there will always be more.  Today, though, I added one to the "have done" list.  A friend had asked if I would take pictures of he and the other groomsmen of a wedding he was taking part in.  I said yes. I was a little nervous, but the situation was low-pressure, with no real expectations of quality.  That being said, I did my best to read up on good techniques and photo ideas, so that I could be as prepared as possible.  The conditions weren't the best as far as lighting goes, but I did my best. Looking back at the following shots, I realized that I probably should have paid more attention to the placement of each man in the photo.  There are several where one is slightly separated from t...

Sabino Canyon

Image
The other day was the first time my camera had been out in a good long while.  My family and I took a trip to Sabino Canyon over Thanksgiving break, and I decided to bring my camera to see what I could find.  It was leaning towards dusk as the sun began to dip below the canyon walls, and the canyon was bathed in beautiful light.  I did my best to capture that, but I was a bit rusty. Thanks for reading.

Grass

Image
Grass is something I never get tired of photographing.  It can look so many different ways, whether it's green grass, or dried-out grass, or wet green grass, or wet dried-out grass.  Pretty interesting stuff.  Anyway, I found some good looking grass when I got to my parent's house this last Friday.  The lighting was good, and I didn't want to miss the opportunity. Thanks for reading.

Spike

Image
I went outside yesterday to see what the weather was like, and found a visitor waiting for me at my front door.  Surprisingly, he wasn't trying to sell me anything or convert me to a new religion.  Turns out, he was just looking for a little friendship.  I think he liked the attention, because he stayed around for me to take a couple of pictures.  I thought Spike was a guy's name, but judging by the pink tag, I might be wrong. Thanks for reading.

Lake Powell

Image
So, my sister's friend's family has a timeshare on a houseboat in Lake Powell, and they invited my sister and our family along with them for a week on it.  As I came to find in my time there, Lake Powell is like no other lake I've been too.  Sure, Havasu, Roosevelt, and Havasu are nice, and water is surely a welcome sight for any Arizonan looking for a way to counteract the effects of the thousand degree heat, but Lake Powell is something else entirely.  I'm talking mainly about the scenery, though the water is nice.  From the time the boat was launched into the water to the time it was pulled out again, we were surrounded by huge sandstone cliffs, of striking color and form.  I took a couple hundred shots just on our way to our final destination, because each specific cliff face, each rock was unique and interesting.  I was also able to catch a couple really striking sunsets. Overall, the trip was a good one.  I was especially excited about water sk...
