Lake Powell

Image
So, my sister's friend's family has a timeshare on a houseboat in Lake Powell, and they invited my sister and our family along with them for a week on it.  As I came to find in my time there, Lake Powell is like no other lake I've been too.  Sure, Havasu, Roosevelt, and Havasu are nice, and water is surely a welcome sight for any Arizonan looking for a way to counteract the effects of the thousand degree heat, but Lake Powell is something else entirely.  I'm talking mainly about the scenery, though the water is nice.  From the time the boat was launched into the water to the time it was pulled out again, we were surrounded by huge sandstone cliffs, of striking color and form.  I took a couple hundred shots just on our way to our final destination, because each specific cliff face, each rock was unique and interesting.  I was also able to catch a couple really striking sunsets. Overall, the trip was a good one.  I was especially excited about water sk...

Skid Marks

Yesterday started off well enough.  I had had a decently relaxing Fourth of July weekend (with the exception of a triathlon I got up at 4:30am to participate in), and I was ready to take on the four day week.  I rose out of bed at 7:30, brushed my teeth, and rode to work, where I performed my morning rituals of flipping open my laptop, stowing my backpack beneath the desk, checking my facebook, and getting myself a cup of coffee.  Everything was going just dandy. I then picked up a couple packages and headed out to deliver them.  One was destined for Optical Sciences, so I took my camera to take pictures of the beautiful building while I was there.  The landscaping there was also pretty nice, so I got some shots of that, too. Deliveries complete, I returned to the office to do some of the odd job stuff I usually do. Then I got the call to go downstairs. More furniture to be moved.  Mind you, this furniture is not of the new-age, lightweight aluminum...

Downtown

I was aching to find something useful to do with my evening yesterday, and decided to pick up my camera again after leaving it at home for a lonely week with the lens cap on.  As daylight was fading, I realized I would need to go somewhere with lights if I wanted to capture anything more interesting than pitch black.  Since I have never really spent that much time exploring there, I decided to head downtown to see what I could see.  I didn't end up exploring too much, because I didn't want to leave my motorcycle unattended, but I did end up experimenting with some time exposures.  I was particularly happy with my find of the newspaper flapping in the breeze in the street, though I'm not sure if I like the ones that show its motion (with the blur) or the clearer ones that don't.  I'll include one of each kind.  Let me know which you prefer. Thanks for reading.
