Lake Powell
So, my sister's friend's family has a timeshare on a houseboat in Lake Powell, and they invited my sister and our family along with them for a week on it. As I came to find in my time there, Lake Powell is like no other lake I've been too. Sure, Havasu, Roosevelt, and Havasu are nice, and water is surely a welcome sight for any Arizonan looking for a way to counteract the effects of the thousand degree heat, but Lake Powell is something else entirely. I'm talking mainly about the scenery, though the water is nice. From the time the boat was launched into the water to the time it was pulled out again, we were surrounded by huge sandstone cliffs, of striking color and form. I took a couple hundred shots just on our way to our final destination, because each specific cliff face, each rock was unique and interesting. I was also able to catch a couple really striking sunsets.
Overall, the trip was a good one. I was especially excited about water skiing again, as I usually only get the opportunity to ski one day every couple years. This time, I skied three or four times. I had to relearn deep starts the first day, but started reliably after four or five tries. The next day was a successful one, with seven good starts for seven pulls. I had a day break for my birthday, and faced some disappointment the next day when instead of 7/7, I did 1/7. I was pretty pissed off at myself, but I made up for it the next day.
The water was perfect, and I was determined to redeem myself. I got up with the first pull, and felt a feeling of bliss sweep over me as I leaned out over the water and sent up a curtain of water behind me. It was the best skiing I've ever done.
