The Groomsmen

Today was a day for a new experience.  While I've been growing more and more competent in the months since I first got my Canon T2i, there are still many shots I've yet to take and scenes I've yet to capture.  And even if I do manage to capture those things, there will always be more.  Today, though, I added one to the "have done" list.  A friend had asked if I would take pictures of he and the other groomsmen of a wedding he was taking part in.  I said yes.

I was a little nervous, but the situation was low-pressure, with no real expectations of quality.  That being said, I did my best to read up on good techniques and photo ideas, so that I could be as prepared as possible.  The conditions weren't the best as far as lighting goes, but I did my best.

Looking back at the following shots, I realized that I probably should have paid more attention to the placement of each man in the photo.  There are several where one is slightly separated from the rest, making him seem a little isolated.  One of the shots could have been made better by realizing one of the men's feet were slightly behind the groom's, while the others were not.

I also could have made more of a connection with the guys while I was taking pictures of them.  Because I was nervous, I was less comfortable with making conversation to keep them relaxed and communicate what I wanted to see in the picture.  I was more focused on actually taking the picture.  I still did my best to talk to them, though, and made sure I threw in an occasional joke to keep genuine smiles on their faces.  That being said, I could have had them compose their facial expressions in more ways than merely "serious", "smiling", or "goofy".

By no means are these professional shots, but I feel that they turned out well for my first formal even shoot.  Please feel free to comment with suggestions on how they might have been better, or with other photo ideas (locations, poses, etc.).

Thanks for reading.
