July 9 - Gerupuk, Lombok

Some pictures and a couple thoughts from the day.

I woke up to harsh smell, and assumed it was a strong cigarette, maybe with clove or something. Woke up later than I wanted to, didn't sleep that well (lot of prayer calls, the blanket and hoodie I was using as a sheet weren't really cutting it). I'm hoping to start feeling like I wake up ready to go. Morning routine, had a turkish egg (omelette w/ veggies, but without being scrambled) and coffee. Stretched. Found a Takayama In the Pink (exactly what I have back home!), decided to paddle out to Don Don. Figured would be good exercise, and with the wind being pretty mild, might even get some waves. Ended up overshooting a bit, and by the time I figure out where I was, had to paddle in from the back rather than the side. Mojo surf camp was there, but I was able to sit in a good spot and catch the bigger ones when they came through. Size was small, but reminded me of Tourmo - work to get into waves, and then weaving a bit through the people on the inside.

Came back, showered, and then went into town. Wanted to get lunch, find a sarong, and maybe get a good picture or two. Asked some kids about sarongs, they said none for sale except in Kuta, but asked "interested in a second-hand one?". Ended up with one of their used ones for 100k. Took some pictures and modeled my new outfit. Got some Nasi Campur and watermelon juice, and sat overlooking the harbor listening to the different Aussie groups around me chat.

Went back and chilled - got my SIM card from Jen at the hostel, read a little bit in the skate pool overlook, inquired about availability of freedive class. One more spot available in the class, sent email that I want it. Hope I get in.

Went and got some ramen. So good! Funny the things that put a smile on your face when traveling. Was pouring my beer from the bottle into a glass (okay, a tall metal cup, but it was a nice one), and I couldn't help myself. And as I sat there, I realized that I still didn't mind that I was the only person there not sitting with someone else. So I occupied my table for six with just one, and sat there appreciating my beer in a cup and the cool light fixture on the table. I must be crazy.
