Venice
Our quick two day trip to Venice was meant to provide enough time to really explore the city's intricacies, to really grasp the details that make Venice the city it is. We didn't want to be typical tourists that go to the city, walk around the canals, eat a pizza at a restaurant looking out to the ocean, and pronounce themselves the equivalent of Venice locals.
Alas, this is almost exactly what we did. However, I would say that I'm not entirely angry that we didn't rush around with our limited time to see the glass shops, all of the unbelievable religious sites, and whatever ancient Roman ruins happened to be around. We got lost in some small streets, visited the major piazzas, and ended up eating several delicious pizzas. I didn't leave Venice having accomplished enough to say I was even a very good tourist, but the experience was good, and that's enough for me. As Sam says, you should always leave a couple things to do in each place you want to visit again. I think I'll be visiting Venice again.
Also, it wasn't quite as dirty or smelly as we had heard. Bummer.
Thanks for reading.
