Annecy

Today, we ventured out from Grenoble in our rental car.  Apparently what we had been given to drive was called a van.  It was really just a small hatchback.  Nevertheless, it was a sweet set of wheels, and it took us where we wanted to go with classic French style and presentation.

We found ourselves in the small lake town of Annecy, and upon walking through the first few streets, it was readily apparent that there was no shortage of picturesque houses, each with its own picturesque windows and shutters.

Definitely a tourist town, but definitely beautiful.

Part of my job, besides doing what my boss tells me to do, is to do whatever any other bosses in the building tell me to do.  So today, because a visiting professor had just arrived in town for the College of Education's annual conference on indigenous languages and their systematic repression, my job was to escort said professor to various buildings across campus to complete his check in to the university. I met Waldo at around nine in the morning, and with the keys to the car loaned to me by one of the administrators of the conference, we set off for the Office of International Affairs. On the Road Again

It's been a while since I've been on vacation with my family, so I decided to ditch work for a week and go with them to Taos, New Mexico.  Most people have never heard of it, but it's a nice little town up north that is also home to some great skiing in the nearby mountains.  It's a long ten hour drive each way, but for the most part, it's worth it.  We go with family friends, as well, and it's always bound to be a good time.  We left home at about eight in the morning yesterday, and finally arrived at our lodgings around eight thirty last night, after stopping for dinner at Guadalajara Grill. The trip was like most I've been on.  There's the initial frustration with last-minute packing and stuffing people, pets, and their things into the car and leaving on time.  After the first five minutes, the frustration wears off, and a kind of happy-go-lucky period sets in.  Everybody is smiling, making jokes about how we always get frustrated at first.  ...

Grass

Grass is something I never get tired of photographing.  It can look so many different ways, whether it's green grass, or dried-out grass, or wet green grass, or wet dried-out grass.  Pretty interesting stuff.  Anyway, I found some good looking grass when I got to my parent's house this last Friday.  The lighting was good, and I didn't want to miss the opportunity.
